Bonnaroo 2015 – 10 Toughest Scheduling Decisions
High-Five! The greatest event on Earth, Bonnaroo, is back in the saddle again. The only problem – deciding who to see. Flume or D’Angelo? Mac DeMarco or Jungle? Childish Gambino or SBTRKT? Baconland or Gator Nugs?! Mmmm. Bacon. Mmmm. Gator Nugs.
Strand of Oaks vs. Dej Loaf vs. Ryn Weaver Opening up with a 3 on 3! Sassy. Ryn Weaver may end up being a household name down the line and Dej Loaf is one of the most celebrated new acts in Hip-Hop, but neither hit home like Strand of Oaks. Especially in a setting like that. Also, he/they follow Unlocking The Truth who opens the entire festival and would be a fuggin riot to catch some of. Strand of Oaks
Mac Demarco vs. Jungle vs. Gramatik I’m not going to spend nearly as much time on this one as it deserves. The Scheduling Gods did a helluva job. Closing down opening night with 3 great acts @midnight. Hashtag Wars! Gramatik is so tempting in a situation like that. The feels! And you already know what you’re getting with Mac DeMarco. A set as memorable as it is weird. But it’s Jungle. It’s Jungle 10/10. Jungle
Kendrick Lamar vs. Ben Harper You gotta see Kendrick here. Friday night. 9:45. What Stage. Another great scheduling move by the best and brightest at Bonnaroo. Both K-Dot and Ben Harper are gonna draw huge crowds. They are gonna turn down at the What Stage so Ben Harper better be prepared to rock TF out on that Which Stage. Are you confused yet? Kendrick Lamar
Earth, Wind & Fire vs. Run The Jewels Earth, Wind and Fire would trump most any act on the bill not named Run The Jewels. Alas, life is hard. Decisions must be made and there is no way I’d miss Blockbuster Night Part Bonnaroo. Bonus points to Run The Jewels since ODESZA plays the same tent afterwards and we’d be there over STS9. Run The Jewels
The War On Drugs vs. Jamie xx Damn, man. This is a tough one. Tie usually goes to the act with more live instrumentation, but I have been playin Jamie’s new album into the ground and I wanna hear Loud Places with 25k people. Jamie xx
My Morning Jacket vs. Childish Gambino vs. SBTRKT My Morning Jacket. Moving right along…
Mumford & Sons vs. Tycho You may be surprised, but there’s no way you’d find me at M&S. Saw a bit of them at ‘Roo in 2011 and left halfway through. Plus I’ve been trying to see Tycho for years now. Where better than at Bonnaroo? @midnight. Tycho
D’Angelo vs. Flume vs. SuperJam Easily Flume over D’Angelo. I know, I know. But D’Angelo just doesn’t do it for me like he does most others. The SuperJam presents a horse of a different color that’s going to be tough to pass up. An 80’s theme with Pretty Lights, Chance the Rapper, Reggie Watts and Jamie Lidell among others. It be a game-time decision, but advantage SuperJam
Spoon vs. The Very Best vs. Mo The Very Best are the closest we’d get to World Music (whatever that means) but the competition is stiff. Mo has the pipes of an angel and Spoon is Spoon. That being said – Spoon
Florence + The Machine vs. Caribou Most folks will probably stick around the What Stage after Spoon to see the great Florence + The Machine, but get your ass out of there and over to The Other Tent for Caribou. You can thank me later. This is the dance party you need in your life before closing things out with the Piano Man. Orrr you could always watch Game 5 of the NBA Finals. Advantage – Caribou
No Contest All on Friday
Royal Blood over SOJA. Because Royal Blood is bloody royal.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra over Against Me! Because Multi-Love.
Sylvan Esso over Guster. Because Coffee.
Alabama Shakes over Atmosphere. Because Rock > Hip-Hop.
